About Me
Hello!
I’m Colby — the heart behind Balance & Bloom Living, a Life Management Coach for busy families and small business owners.
For years, I juggled a busy household, parenting two active boys, and everything life threw at me. Between work, kids, and household demands, I was constantly exhausted — and still trying to figure out dinner each night! (Do they really need dinner every night?)
Over time, I discovered practical, simple ways to bring calm, order, and joy into our family life — and I realized how much I loved helping others do the same. Whether it's creating systems at home, untangling an overwhelming project, or helping someone bring more ease and structure to their workday, I love finding solutions that make life feel lighter.
Life isn't perfect, and neither am I. But I've weathered enough clutter, chaos, competing priorities, and unexpected mishaps to help you find solutions that actually work.
I believe there is no one-size-fits-all approach to homes, routines, businesses, or organizing. Every family, business, space, and challenge is unique, and my goal is to support you in creating solutions that work for your real life — with empathy, creativity, and a little humor along the way.
My Experience
I began my career as a middle school science teacher, where I loved working with students each day and had the honor of mentoring new teachers. My favorite moments were helping new teachers streamline classroom routines, organize their spaces, and create systems that made teaching more manageable.
After my boys were born, I worked from home doing data analysis for educational research. While the flexibility was wonderful, I quickly learned the challenges of balancing work with home life — flipping laundry between meetings and trying to focus during nap time!
From there, I worked at San Diego State University for ten years, deepening my roots in San Diego, first as a university supervisor in the credential program and later as the head of the Math Science Credential Cohort. Teaching future teachers was incredibly rewarding, but the best part of my week was always the one-on-one time helping students develop routines, improve time management, and build systems that supported their success.
Alongside teaching, I've served as a Parents Association President, volunteered extensively with local schools, and recently begun working with a local organization that supports foster youth—experiences that have strengthened my belief that everyone benefits from practical support and someone in their corner.
I hold a Master's in Education and a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from SDSU, and a Bachelor's in Liberal Studies with a minor in Art and Design from Cal Poly SLO.
My Philosophy
I believe in keeping things simple, focusing on what truly matters, and supporting each other along the way. Whether it's organizing a space, streamlining routines, simplifying workflows, or tackling an overwhelming project, I approach every situation with care, practicality, and a plant-growth metaphor — helping systems, habits, families, and businesses take root and flourish.
A Little About Me
Outside of work, you'll often find me:
Mountain biking through the beautiful trails around San Diego
Experimenting with painting (houses and art!)
Cheering on my two college-aged boys
I know firsthand how challenging it can be to balance life, work, and family — and I love helping families and small business owners create more breathing room, bringing greater ease, clarity, and calm to the spaces where they live and work.
